The South Africa men’s hockey team enjoyed a morale-boosting 4-1 win against rivals China in a training match at Hartleyvale in Cape Town Monday evening to add to the 3-3 draw against the Chinese on Sunday night, but now it’s a nervous time for the enlarged squad as they wait to see who will make the final 18 for the World League tournament that begins at the same venue on Saturday.

SA midfielder Clint Panther's mental and physical toughness came through against Germany.

The South Africa men’s hockey team have been hard at work since February 19 in Cape Town as the group builds towards the World League Round 2 tournament that takes place at Hartleyvale in Cape Town from March 7 to 15.

The South African Hockey Association have announced the names of the players for the upcoming national men’s hockey squad camp, from which a team of 18 will be selected to represent the green and gold in the World League Round 2 tournament in early March.

It was a 5-0 scoreline in the one-off men’s hockey Test between world number 12 South Africa and world number two Holland in the Cape Town Summer Series at a festive Hartleyvale Tuesday, the Dutch running out winners after leading 2-0 at half-time.

There was a comprehensive 6-0 victory for the Investec South Africa women’s hockey team in the third Test against Chile at Hartleyvale in Cape Town Monday, but in the late evening game the SA came out on the wrong side of a nine-goal spectacular.
