Sports loving South Africans will get to vote for a Team South Africa mascot for all multi-coded sports events going forward from the London Olympics and Paralympics later this year.

 The South African Interprovincial Indoor Hockey Tournament (IPT) came to a thrilling close on the third and final day at the Sunningdale Sports Centre in Cape Town on Saturday with the KZN Inland men’s and women’s teams winning their respective events to be crowned the 2012 national champions.

The 2012 South African Indoor Hockey Senior Interprovincial Tournament (IPT) got off to an exciting start with some thrilling matches at the Sunningdale Sports Centre. The general Table View area is one of the fastest growing areas in the country, and the developers of Sunningdale saw fit to build an indoor centre with a solid wooden floor and a surface area which is marginally short of full international size.  It has proved to be a popular venue with the local leagues, and the visitors saw just why.

The South African men’s hockey turned in a slick second Test performance to beat Austria 5-0 and clinch the series 1-0 after the first Test on the weekend February 25/26 was abandoned due to rain with the Austrians leading 3-2.

Striker Michael Korper scored a hat-trick as Austria led South Africa 3-2 in the first of two Tests in Randburg on Saturday before rain interrupted the match six minutes from time.
