SAHA TRANSFORMATION POLICY

TRANSFORMATION

As at 15 November 2008 the following Transformational Policies will come into effect. The requirements for the future SA and Provincial teams will be as follows:

The figures for the National teams are in two categories:

(A) Those that are related to events under the control of our Macro Structures: E.g. Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games, and All Africa Games – These requirements will be as per agreement with Macro Structures.

(B) Other events: The selection for all other National Senior and U21 teams will be on merit, but the teams must reflect the hockey playing demographics in South Africa. The requirement for National U18 teams are listed below:

South African National teams – All U18

Policy:

2008 – 9
2009 – 9
2010 – 9

Custodians South African Hockey Association Executive under the direction of the President, Transformation Portfolio holder, and the SA Hockey Council.

Provincial teams Senior/Junior women and men

Policy:

1. The requirements for all Provincial teams will be as per audit.

2. All players are to play a minimum of 40% of the playing time of their teams fixture matches at the IPT, inclusive of specialized positions like goalkeepers.

Management for all teams

Policy:

1. The requirement for officials in Management of all Senior and U21 Provincial teams will be as per audit, but Provinces are encouraged to include at least one person of colour in their Management team for 2009.

2. The Management of all Youth teams must include at least one person of colour.

Custodians

South African Hockey Association Executive under the direction of the President, Transformation Portfolio holder and the SA Hockey Council.

Penalty

There will be no penalty for Non-compliance in 2009. Provinces that exceed their Transformation requirements as per audit will be incentivised. Provinces who fail to support the Transformation process will participate unofficially in all SAHA tournaments from 2010, and could be suspended from participation.
