Your federation needs your vote! SAHA in the running for prestigious award
The SA Hockey Association is leading the voting for the Sports Federation of the Year in the 2011 gsport Awards! Every SA hockey fan is requested to vote for our own federation that does so much for the sport in South Africa.
It is at no charge to its visitors, and allowing each visitor as many votes as they wish to promote their favourite sports Federation,
Voting at the gsport.co.za website started at 6 pm on Friday, 15 July, and will be open 24 hours a day for the following seven days, finishing on Friday, July 22, to allow supporters of women in sport to decide their favourite sports code. It's http://gsport.co.za/home
The gsport.co.za initiative is now open for online voting for 7 days, to determine the top Sports Federation of the Year, as voted for by anyone supporting women in sport.
The voting at the time of writing was:
SA Hockey Association (39%, 23 Votes)
Cricket SA (19%, 11 Votes)
SA Football Association (12%, 7 Votes)
Women's Golf SA (8%, 5 Votes)
Netball SA (5%, 3 Votes)
Athletics SA (5%, 3 Votes)
As the clock winds down to the initiative’s 6th annual Awards, gsport Founder and Editor Kass Naidoo, said: “We decided to introduce the ... Sports Federation of the Year awards to show appreciation for the increased effort being made to raise the profile of women’s sport.”
Based on the number of reports published per sports federation on the gsport website over its six years of operation, the federations up for the 2011 Federation of the Year Award are Surfing, Cycling, Cricket, Hockey, Golf, Football, Athletics, Netball, Rugby and Tennis Associations.
“There has been good work done by federations and sponsors in promoting women’s sport. We look forward to honouring the most popular South African sports federation, voted for by anyone supporting women in sport, for its contribution to the cause.”

The awards ceremony takes place at Wanderers Club in Johannesburg on August 1.
At the ceremony, Investec South Africa hockey star and world goalscoring record breaker Pietie Coetzee, who now has an incredible 225 goals in 227 Test matches, as well as athlete Caster Semenya and footballer Noko Matlou, are in contention for the 2011 gSTAR of the Year award, which recognises a sportswoman who has stood out for her achievements, both on and off the field. The winner will be chosen by a panel of judges.
Coetzee is also in contention in the 2011 South African Sports Awards, presented by Sport and Recreation South Africa, in the SA Sportswoman of the Year category. The awards ceremony is at Sun City on August 19 and 20.
